What is the difference between a turbo and a supercharger?

This is a very common question, but it's not one that's very widely understood. The differences between centrifugal superchargers and turbochargers are these:

A supercharger is driven (spun) by a belt that is connected to the crankshaft via a pulley. This pulley uses the rotation of the crank to drive the belt and spin the pulley on the supercharger, which is connected to a set of gears that have "stepped up" ratios. This means that they spin the impeller a certain amount faster than the pulley itself is spinning. This is how it produces boost.

A turbocharger, on the other hand, is driven off of exhaust gasses produced by the engine. This in turn spins a turbine which is connected to an impeller by a shaft, which creates boost.

What is Turbo Lag?

The term Turbo Lag refers to the time before the turbine and impeller in the turbo are spinning fast enough to start creating boost. Our systems are designed to be very efficient, which reduces the amount of time that it takes the turbo to spool, thus reducing lag time.

What options does Hellion Power Systems offer for its kits?

We offer upgrades to larger turbochargers, heat shield options, and Ball Bearing turbo options. Also available is an upgrade to a Maximum Motorsports front suspension system. Complete lists of upgrades, and their respective costs are available in each kit page.

When can I ecpect to receive my purchased turbo upgrades and options?

The system will ship as soon as payment is received, and the upgraded turbocharger will be built and shipped directly from Turbonetics, as the larger turbochargers are not kept in stock.

Will I need my car to be Dyno tuned after installing a Hellion Turbo System?

Yes, we strongly reccomend that the car is taken to a dyno facility immediately after installation of the kit in order to be tuned by a professional. This will help prevent any engine damage from occuring when the car is subjected to boost, and to asure that the car is tuned to make the maximum amount of power.
